Journal for Writing Across the Curriculum
Primary Package - Grades K–2
The remainder of the journal provides space for 180 journal prompts for a typical school year. The journal prompt thus becomes the responsibility of the teacher and allows the teacher options for students to write about. The scope & sequence follows that of major published textbooks and satisfies the national standards. One journal strategy is introduced and practiced before a second is introduced, then the strategies are varied to insure variety in writing experiences and suitability to specific topics. There is room for one journal entry on each page, and there is space on each page for an optional journal prompt. We encourage teachers to be creative in their choice of the topic prompt, but to use the same strategy if at all possible. There are also suggestions in the Teacher's Manual for additional topic prompts. The journal is divided into 8 sections of 22 entries with a Log of Entries preceding each section. The log serves as a paper trail of what students have used for a 4½-week instructional period. It helps students see at a glance what they have met in class and gives them immediate access to each entry in that section. The Log of Entries also provides easy access for teachers as they review students' growing ability to "talk about their studies" with precision.
